From the crystal clear, cold waters of Scotland's West Coast, Measan na Mara brings you the chance to sample the 'fruits of the sea'--measan na mara-. Whether you prefer the deliciously sweet flavour of the native flat oyster, eaten au naturel, or the rich flavour of the Pacific Oyster, taken fresh with a squeeze of lemon, or cooked in a variety of ways, Measan na Mara offers you the chance to say, "oysters are my world".
Situated in the South Channel of Loch Moidart in the beautiful and wild Ardnamurchan Peninsula, we grow our native oysters from a population, indigenous to the Loch. Reared in our own hatchery and nursery ponds, we lay them out in our class 'A' waters to mature for four years.
With shallow waters and good tidal flow, our oysters' food source is nutritious and abundant, supplied from the upwellings of the cold, rich temperate waters of the North Atlantic. Their growth is slow and steady to give depth of flavour. But to add that something extra, we finish them in a fattening lagoon, specially enriched with marine algae to give you that 'Essence of Moidart'.
