Harrison House of Horrors

It's a great life if you don't weaken.

Justin being his usual goofy self.

September 2008

Welcome

This is the home page for the Harrison Family: Joanne, Jon and Justin. Also all out critters: cats; Tinkerbelle, Misty, Laurelyn, Ogitchida, Furby, Dennis Acan II (Denny) and Foamy: 7 rats (5 are currently unnamed) Harmony & Ripley: turtles; Ninja and Gamera: and Bearded Dragons; Gigan and Hera.

We all live in the middle of nowhere also called New Rome, WI. We are about 30 miles North of Wisconsin Dells, 16 miles South of Wisconsin Rapids, 55 miles South of Wausau, 75 miles Northeast of Madison and 8 miles South of Nekoosa. We live across the street from Petenwell Flowage.

Being in the middle of nowhere and down the road from a cemetery it is relatively quiet  except for the occasional weekender. Nature abounds here too. We have bear, fox, coyote, wolves, turkeys, deer, moose, elk, mountain lions, lynx, eagles, vultures, ravens, crows, LOTS of other smaller birds and hawks, martins, badgers, mink, beavers, moles, all kinds of mice and voles, muskrats, river otters, opossums, skunks, raccoons and many other wild critters. These wild critters and some escaped domestic critters can be seen wandering around our house every now and then.

Justin has finally settled on a career that suits him—Automotive Technician. He is taking classes at Mid-State Technical College in Wisconsin Rapids while fixing/maintaining his trucks and my old Chevy Astro van. He has managed to pull some of the highest grades in his classes as well as impress his teacher and many of the local auto parts salespeople. He had the 1994 Ford Ranger running for part of the summer before a rod blew and damaged the engine. He plans on rebuilding the engine and getting it running once again. His 1997 Ford F-150 he is going to work on in transmissions class next semester. This semester he is working on his 1991 Ford F-250 in general and Wednesday night classes and my 1994 Chevy Astro van in Brakes & Steering class. The teacher has had a blast using the Astro to demonstrate a number of different things besides the brakes—ball joints, steering components and something else I can’t recall. Justin and his partner Eric are getting all kinds of extra credit to raise their grades further.

I still work for NTI but under the Meijer Contract now. No more IRS for me which is a lot less stress, except for the Christmas madness.  People are already calling and asking about layaway and toy items. I do customer service and get complaints and a few compliment calls as well as calls looking for items in various departments. Meijer has SuperCenters (started them 12 years before Wal-mart jumped on the bandwagon) and has started online sales. You can check them out at http://www.meijer.com sometime. The store locations are in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio so far. Some of the most common calls we get are people who use the self checkout (U-Scan or FastLane) and leave stuff behind. Some small items I can see getting away from you but cases of soda, bags full of produce or meat—come on how can you leave that?!
