This dog is originally from Spain and is part of the mastiff breed. They are used as guard dogs for cattle and sheep in some parts of Spain. As has been noted elsewhere this dog's temperament is noted for being even tempered and having a gentle manner with children. This dog is prone to aggression with other dogs and will not tolerate visitors who are uninvited. If this dog needs to be kept inside then ensure that it has access to a large yard and is walked daily.

This particular mastiff type breed is a large one. There body types tend to be longer than they are tall with long legs and a and a deep chest. The associated dewlap of the mastiff breed is present along with the large head with a deep muzzle. What is the dewlap? The dewlap is the fold or folds of loosely hanging skin beneath the chin that drapes over the top of the chest. It functions as a predator deterrent. This works because the vulnerable part of the body is now protected from the predator's teeth. This breed can have a very dense coat. The color is usually brindle but may be lemon,fawn,wolf gray or black and white. They are protected from extremes of weather through there coat.
