Mary Mary consists of sisters Erica Atkins-Campbell & Tina Atkins-Campbell. Born in Inglewood, California, Erica & Tina were raised up in church by their Gospel-singing parents, along with five other sisters and one brother. Along with their siblings, the sisters sang in the local church choir and were often given coveted soloist spots. After singing with the popular "Bobby Jones Gospel" show on BET, Erica and Tina were inspired to pursue musical careers. Erica and Tina are the fourth and fifth of nine children born to Eddie Atkins, a minister at the Evangelistic Church of God in Christ and former counself, and Thomasina, a working mom. Because of their proximity in age, the two singers grew up closer to one another than to any of their seven siblings, who include the oldest, Darrel, 37 (the only boy; a second one died in childhood); Maliea, 35; (Erica, 30; Tina, 28;) Delisa, 24; Thomasina, 23, who sings back up; Alana, 17, who occasionally substitutes for Thomasina; and Shanta, 15. **This was typed up in 2002, so the ages aren't the same**

The story behind the name "Mary Mary"

The name evokes an appeal to above, a spiritual call, a joyful noise. Which is why singers/songwriters Erica & Tina Atkins-Campbell chose "Mary Mary as their performance moniker. Mary Mary's music-- sometimes co-written and all produced by hot R&B/hip-hop producer Warryn Campbell is contemporary and caring, funky and faithful, surprising, soulful and deeply spiritual. A chance meeting with Campbell around 1996 was the key event that brough Mary Mary into existence. Thankful, the group's debut album for Columbia Records is pure Gospel, made for those who may not yet have been touched by The Word, but will be moved by the beat.

"We were thinking about the Marys in the Bible, and there are two specifically: Mary Magdalene, who was delivered from evil spirits and of course Mary, Mother of Jesus, both of whom were very instrumental in His ministries," explains Erica, the slightly older and more laid-back of the 20 something siblings. "It's all about Jesus and telling people who He is and of His love. That's the whole purpose behind Mary Mary."
