Fishing nets were used on a daily basis by the fishermen of Jesus' day. It was the tool of their trade. The Bible tells us that the disciples did many things with their nets. They "cast their nets," "let down their nets," and "dragged their nets." They did this all in the attempt to make a living. (Matthew 4:18; Mark 1:16; Luke 5:4-5; John 21:6-8) Christian Pastors/ Church leaders are much like those disciples of old who are using the tools of their trade to win souls for Jesus. In a sense, every day they cast, let down, and drag their nets in the ministry that they've been called to. While doing their ministry, sometimes the nets break. For the disciples the nets broke because of the large haul that they were bringing in. For others their nets broke because of snagging on sharp objects and getting cut on rough edges. Other nets needed mending simply because the general wear and tear of everyday use. For many Christian Pastor/Church leaders the same things happen. As they go about their daily work, their lives and ministry get caught, snagged and cut because of misunderstandings, personal grievances, unkind words, and many other things, until their lives are torn apart and apparently useless. However, we see the disciples doing some interesting things with their nets. For example, we see them "washing their nets" and "mending their nets." They realized that if they were ever going to be prepared to bring in that large haul, they needed their nets repaired. The same applies to you. Maybe it's time for your life to receive some washing (cleansing) and mending (healing). If you have been forced out of your congregation or have resigned because of undue pressure, would you please take the time to contact us. We would love to help you through this time and lead you into God's presence where there is healing for your wounded soul, so that you become whole again, and are prepared to rise up to the Call which God has on your life. |
