THE NAME OF THE GREAT RUSSIAN PIANIST MARIA YUDINA FOREVER BELONGS TO THE HISTORY OF THE SPIRITUAL RESISTANSE OF THE RUSSIAN INTELLIGENTSIA AGAINST THE COMMUNIST REGIME. FROM THE VERY FIRST DAYS OF THE BOLSHEVIK COUP IN OCTOBER 1917 TILL HER VERY LAST DAYS, MARIA YUDINA

The key to understanding of Yudina's style of music making lies in the fact that she was an unorthodox person in an orthodox Communist state. From the very beginning she refused to live a double lifestyle, and from that moment she never seprated her music from her religion and her life. With the power of her Christian belief she represented a resistanse of a single person against the whole Soviet state, a person from a generation of the Silver Age of the Russian culture, who along with Prokofiev, Sofronitsky, Pasternak, Mandelshtam, Akhmatova and many others was to preserve the eternal values of the Russian culture and of the Russian Orthodox belief  from the Communist destruction.

As a pianist, Maria YUDINA was completely different from any of her contemporaries. Because of her religious and theological attitude, she always seeked for an appropriate philosophical concept of the pieces she played. Thus, she could turn her recital into a preach, a confession and a revelation at the same time.

YUDINA believed into the transfigurative power of music, bringing it into her own performance
