The company formally know as Electronic Dance Theatre began creating work with interactive technologies in 1994 with a show called The Navigator. The show featured a number of new interactive instruments and a hard-wired sensitized performance space. The Navigator was supported by Dawsons Music, Roland and Strand Lighting. In 1995 the artists developed the first generation of the BODYCODER SYSTEM an on-the-body sensor interface that uses radio to transmit data. The Bodycoder System had its first outing in The Anatomy Class, premiered at the Lawrence Batley Theatre. Since 1995 the artists have created and performed work with the Bodycoder System at various international events and venues across Europe the US and Canada and at artist gatherings including ISEA, ICMC and NIME. Major works include The Vox Circuit Trilogy (2007) The Suicided Voice (2005) Spiral Fiction (2002) commissioned by Digital Summer (cultural programme of the Commonwealth Games, Manchester). Cyborg Dreaming (2000/1) commissioned by the Science Museum, London. Zeitgeist at the KlangArt Festival and Lifting Bodies (1999) at the Trafo, Budapest as featured artists at the Hungarian Computer Music Foundation Festival NEW WAVES supported by the British Council.NEWS. Mark and Julie are working on a major new piece that includes live multi-channel diffusion for 2010. Mark is pulling together a document that charts the evolution of the Bodycoder System hardware and software and tracks the development of our practice from 1995 to present.
