Enabling the Explorer Context-Menu extension
allows you to generate a JAD file with a right click on it |
Why
- Interest in Java Games for Nokia mobile phones.
- Some of the Java Games for Nokia mobile phones does not comes
with a .jad file, so I searched the net for a JAD generator.
- Came across a lousy program called 'JADgen', so I decided to
make one that is better then it.
How to use this program?
There are 3 ways.
1) Run JADMaker. Drag and drop a JAR file onto the window.
JAD generated. That's it!
2) Drag and drop a JAR file onto the JADMaker.exe icon in a
Windows Explorer window.
This means you can also create a desktop shortcut to JADMaker.exe,
and then drop JAR file(s) onto the shortcut.
3) Once the "Make JAD" Explorer Context-Menu extension is enabled
(by checking it in the program),
you can right click on any JAR file(s) for a quick "Make JAD".
Remember that you can process multiple JAR files at one time (=batch
procesing).
Just select multiple files, and use any of the ways above
(this is really the icing on the cake!).
With so many ways to get your JAD file, you are spoilt for choice!!!
Installation
No special installation is required on Windows.
JADMaker can be put in any folder (together with other
required files).
You may make a shortcut to it on your Desktop.

Dom: so having just .jar file
doesn't help me much.
Halibut: If you have a jar file and
need a jad, use JADMaker - simple to use - it just creates
a jad file.

i have not tried it myself so i do not know how reliable
it is, but that's the kind of thing you need.

这个JADMaker生成器不像原来的JADgen要自己输入路径那样麻烦,直接拉过去就可以了。生成的JAD文件自动放在JAR相同的目录,很方便。

I managed to get a copy of
Asteriods on my phone!!(no sound though). I have found it
works best if you download a file in JAR format and
convert it to JAD using JADmaker ...
Nearly all the midlets worked when i used JADmaker, unless
they were Nokia/seimens dependant.

Have you change the jar file to jad?
that is what a jadmaker for.

in jadmaker to change it to jad file and then do you
stuff.

Now I say this because some games I
tired did produce the FAILED error ... but I then decided
to make another JAD file (using JADMaker - better than
JADGen) ... I then tried the same game again and I didn't
get the FAILED error and the game uploaded & installed ...
I didn't get installed everytime on every game but the
game uploaded without the FAILED error ...

Questions & Answers
Not completed
1. Q. Just downloaded your 200 java games. I'm a little confused how i get them to work on the phone.
A.
Sounds like you got some nice games through BitTorrent. But I am not
the the person who uploaded the torrent or the person who included
JadMaker in the torrent.
2.
A.
jadmaker is meant to create a .jad file based on an existing
.jar file, and this .jad file is required only if your
installation method requires it.
nokia phones typically do not requires it, but older nokia phones
may require it to install games to the game folder instead of the
application folder.
3.
Q. got a new nokia 6288 phone
will I only need to compile the games using the JAD and .dll to play them on a PC?
A. in your situation, probably you do not have to use jadmaker at
all. just use nokia application installer to transfer your games. just double-click on a .JAR file, and you should be prompted to transfer.
4. A. i suggest you download the latest "nokia pc suite", and use
nokia application installer to transfer your games.
5. A. the error "file
format not supported" could mean the particular game you
are trying to install is not compatible with your phone.
Try transfering a few other .JAR files to your phone (here
are two sample .JAR
game files for u to test).
and if it goes well. then your .JAR files might hv problem.
6. Q.
While using JAD Maker 1.15, when I
drag .jar file into the JAD Maker window there shows one error as
"Run-Time error '53' : File not found : unzip32.dll".
A.
did u download ur copy of jadmaker
from
http://www.geocities.com/mangokun/jadmaker/jadmaker.htm?
the download zip file (
http://www.geocities.com/mangokun/jadmaker/JADMaker.zip) already has unzip32.dll inside of
it.
Troubleshooting
Basic list of VB runtime files and MS scripting file required in
your system
msvbvm60.dll
scrrun.dll
mscomctl.ocx
msxml3.dll
* When I try to run JADMaker, it dies with the following
error: Component 'MSCOMCTL.OCX' or one of its dependencies not
correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid
If you encounter this error, you will need to install the file
MSCOMCTL.OCX to your computer.

* When I try to run JADMaker, it dies with the following
error: The file 'MSVBVM60.DLL' cannot be found...
MSVBVM60.DLL is a support file required to run any Visual Basic 6
program.
If you encounter this error, you will need to install the 'Visual
Basic 6.0 Runtime Module'.

* When I try to run JADMaker, it dies with the following
error(s):
Run-time error '429' ActiveX component can't create object
Run-time error '-2147221231 (80040111)': Automation error
ClassFactory cannot supply requested class
In summary, your system lacks scrrun.dll.
Download & install Microsoft Windows Script 5.6 for your version of
windows from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp
The error that you have encountered is caused by some VB runtime and
MS scripting files not being properly installed or uninstalled from
the system.
One way that the run-time error 429 occurs is when one of the
components that is needed by the program is not registered
correctly.
The File System object is contained in the Scrrun.dll file.
Make certain that this DLL file is installed on the target computer,
and that it is correctly registered.

* When I try to run JADMaker, it dies with the following
error:
Run-time error '430': Class does not support Automation or does not
support expected interface
This error message does not mean that there is something wrong with
MDAC. It means that some DLL file, which is referenced from the
application, is missing.
However it is recommended that you get your system updated to MDAC
2.5 SP3 or higher.

* When I try to run JADMaker, it dies with the following error:
Run-time error '53': File not found
or MANIFEST.MF not found in ...
My program checks for a file "MANIFEST.MF"
in your .JAR file.
Pls check manually that you have a valid .JAR file.
There is a chance that your .JAR (rename its extension to check so)
is actually a .ZIP file, that contains 2 files (a .JAR and JAD
file).
* No matter how many times I check or uncheck the "Enable Explorer
Context-Menu extension", it won't work for me.
Use either WinZip/WinRAR/PowerArchiver/etc to link file-association
with .JAR files.
Then proceed to open JADMaker. Uncheck and check enable explorer
context-menu ext.
* My .jar file has a "MANIFEST.MF" but it is still unable to
convert.
Most games has MANIFEST.MF in this path:
META-INF\MANIFEST.MF
and my program only looks for MANIFEST.MF in this path.
Version History
1.15 (Jan 13, 2005)
- Minor code changes to better handle error that arises with invalid
.JAR files
1.1 (Sep 12, 2003)
- Removed a serious bug in the program, that will cause extra lines in
the JAD file
