ABOUT
THIS DIRECTORY ...
First
of all, I am not doing this for money. Anyone can list their
websites here for free. Ditto, anyone can use the information
here, copy it, or claim it as their own - I don't mind. This
is sort of like a hobby to me. I enjoy doing it and if it benefits
you at the same time, then so much the better.
In my teenage
days, I was part of the tuition scene in Malaysia. I sat through
tuition classes and prayed for exam tips in seminars. All these
seemed pretty normal to me. It wasn't until I joined the workforce
that I came upon a different perpective. Whenever I relate the
tuition phenomenon to my colleagues from the United States,
they are almost always astonished.
In the United
States, tuition is what you pay to universities and colleges.
In Malaysia, however, tuition means 'extra coaching' - a type
of privately paid tutoring that is separate from the mainstream
public schooling system. The Westerners are even more surprised
when I tell them that at least 80% of urban students in Malaysia
choose to go for tuition - even though it's optional. Tuition,
it seems, is very much a Malaysian obsession.
This directory
lists Tuition Centres, also known as Pusat Tuisyen in Malaysia,
by Alphabetical order and by States. It is not complete. If
you want to suggest a website, I'll
be grateful for your help. If you want to find out more about
Malaysian education, this is a good article that I've found
- Malaysia,
Education & Tuition: A Background Guide. In the meantime,
enjoy the fruits of my labor ...
