Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf, violoncello

A native of Scotland, Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf has given concerts as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe and the US. Currently performing in "Sunday in the Park with George" (Studio 54), she was principle cellist of the Broadway productions of "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" (Hilton Theater) and "The Boy from Oz" with Hugh Jackman (Imperial Theater). Other theater credits include: "LoveMusik" (Biltmore Theater); "The Persians" (National Actor's Theater); "Floyd Collins" (Playwright's Horizons); and the premiers of Jason Robert Brown's Drama Desk award-winning "The Last Five Years" both in Chicago (Northlight Theater), and New York City (Minetta Lane). New York highlights include a featured solo with Cassandra Wilson as part of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company "Phantom Project" at BAM, Stephen Sondheim's "Opening Doors" at Carnegie's Zankel Hall and, most recently, "An evening of Sondheim" with Maria Friedman at the Cafe Carlyle.

A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music in London, she earned both a Masters and a Doctorate degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder. As a student she attended the Steans Institute for Young Artists at the Ravinia Festival in Chicago, the Sarasota Festival, and the International Musicians' Seminar at Prussia Cove in England.

She has taught as an assistant at the University of Colorado at Boulder, on the faculty of the Arapaho College in Denver, as faculty and guest artist at the Ameropa International Chamber Music Festival in Prague, CZ and has performed recitals and given masterclasses at universities throughout the US.

She currently lives in New York City with her husband, saxophonist, Marc Phaneuf.
