| About 75% of the world's major natural catastrophes between 1970 and 1997 occured in the Asia and Pacific region, mostly in the povery ridden and developing countries ( UNESCO and ADB 2000 ). There has been a general upward trend in the number of natural disasters. This Website will try to give details about the indepths of Disaster Management and will try to focus on Predisaster Management plans ; As what should be done before the fall out of a natural disaster. The social and economic cost of disasters varies widely and is difficult to estimate on a global basis. Insurance claims tend to be misleading as an estimate of the economic impact of disasters. Since 1991, more than half of all the disaster reported occured in countries with medium levels of human development. However, two-thirds of those killed came from countries with low levels of human development, while just 2 percent came from highly developed countries. The effect of development on disasters is dramatic. On, average 22.5 people die per reported disaster in highly developed countries, 145 die per disaster in countries with medium human development and 1052 people die per disaster in countries with low levels of development (IFRC 2001). This website will focus on all such issues related to disaster management and also will try to create awareness about the do's and don'ts at your personal level, before a natural disaster. A few seconds of your reflex action can save your life. So, content wise the website will try to reach the goal of a DISASTER FREE WORLD. Lets together join hands to make a better and safer world for us as well as for our future generations. Regards Mainak Mazumder ( Founder ) |

| What is International Day for Disaster Reduction? It was in the year 1989, the United Nations General Assembly designated the second Wednesday of October International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction (resolution 44/236, 22 December 1989). The International Day was observed annually during the International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction, 1990-1999. In 2001, the General Assembly decided to maintain the observance of the International Day for Natural Disaster Reduction (resolution 56/195, 21 December 2001), as a vehicle to promote a global culture of natural disaster reduction, including disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness. The theme of the International Day for Disaster Reduction and Campaign for 2006 "Disaster risk reduction begins at School" aims at promoting disaster risk education and school safety.
