Prince Guillaume of Luxembourg was born on 11 November 1981 at the Grand Duchess Charlotte Maternity Hospital in Luxembourg. He is the eldest child of Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. On 18 December 2000, he took the constitutional oath as Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg.
Education and Youth
Prince Guillaume received his primary education at the Lorentzweiler School before studying at the Robert Schuman College, both in Luxembourg. He completed his baccalaureate in Switzerland.

In August 2002, Prince Guillaume completed his military officer training at the
Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, England. He is a Lieutenant of the Luxembourg Army and took his oath in December 2002. The prince is currently studying for a degree in history and political sciences at Durham University in England.
Work and Interests
Although still completing his education, the Hereditary Grand Duke already participates in the public life of Luxembourg. In 2000, he became President of the Kraizberg Foundation, which works to support the mentally disabled. He succeeded his father as President of the
Economic Development Board in 2001 and lead a development visit to South Korea in April of that year.
Leisure Interests
The Hereditary Grand Duke is interested in all types of music and used to play the violin. His sporting interests include tennis, swimming, sailing and skiing.

He is an active member of the
Luxembourg Scout Movement and, in 1997, he joined a scout camp reforestation project in Nepal.
