The following is an update to my data on the Poe list: When I made a posting to the Fayette County Listing on German baptisms, Jane McCann Walsh improved on my listing and added the following information: Elizabeth White was born on May 17, 1800 to Christoph Weiss and Catharina. "Biographical and Portrait CYCLOPEDIA of Fayette County Pennsylvania" listed "Stouffel White's" wife as Peggy. "Henry White and Eva Fox" lists Christopher's wife as Mary Poe and I believe I saw Christopher White listed as one of the husbands of the daughters of George POE and Elizabeth MATEER. Henry WHITE is the son of Christopher WHITE and Catharina POE About 1778 Catherine POE was born to George POE and Catherine WILLARD. When I thought that "Peggy" POE was the daughter of George POE and Elizabeth MATEER, I wrote the Frederick County Historical Society and asked for a search of marriage records and the birth of a female child in the early 1780's. The Frederick County Historical Society could not fulfill my request but they did provide me with a summary of the will of Dawalt Willard. The will is dated November 26, 1781. does not mention his daughter Catherine, but does leave f15 to grandson George POE and f10 to grand-daughters Elizabeth and Catherine POE. Catherine WILLARD POE had died by November 26, 1781. I am not currently researching POE but probably will be in the future. Regards, Frank McGrath |

From: Arverzeen @ aol.com Date: Wed, 22 Mar 2000 23:17:56 EST I am searching for a William Poe that was looking for his parents Luther S. Poe and Verly Poe. They lived at Big Spring, Texas, on a farm 17 miles N. of town. He put his query on the usgenweb site of Howard Co., Texas several months ago. His e-mail address wouldn't go. It was Percy with some numbers and I don't know what the server name was. My name is Glenda Nix Hinson. William if you happen to see this. Please contact me at arverzeen@aol.com. Your parents lived on a farm just north of my family, who were J. Webb Nix and Gladys Nix. They were there until the 1950's. Thanks |

Paula Eubanks I have a Simon and Terry Poe both in my family tree. I have a official document that supports this. The Terry POE in this document who is the heir of Simon POe Sr. is my ancestor. In a POE tree completed in 1928, it says that James & Polly Poe were the parents of Terry, but here it just says he's an heir of Simon POe Sr. It's confusing. THis family tree was compiled about 72 years ago by eople who could remember who their grandparents were. Would appreciate any help. I just started this research on the POE family. It reads: I Terry Poe of the County of Cape Girardeau and state of Missouri one of the heirs of Simon Poe Sen'r, deceased do hereby acknowledge to have received from Simon Poe and James Poe adms. of the estate of said Simon Poe Sen'r deceased forty dollars in [part??] of my distribute share of said estate as an heir at [love or law?] of the same. [I divided the map into three sections along the Ohio River, and three sections along the southern border]. In an on-going project, I am copying the 1870 census, and am willing to answer queries of anyone looking for their people around 1870/1871 Bracken County. Nikki |

| While researching my Hook family I ran across your Poe family. I recently found the Hook-Poe cemetery in Bracken Co., KY. I live in Lewis Co, about and hour to the east of Bracken Co. My ancestors are John Hook and Hannah Morris. They are buried in this cemetery along with some of their children, some Poes, and some Taylors. I believe one or more of their children married into the Poe family. I documented the tombstones and took pictures of them. The cemetery is in horrible condition. Terribly vandalized. Graves have even been dug up. It is in a secluded area on what used to be Hook property. At one time this property, about 1200 acres, belonged to John and Hannah Hook. They migrated to KY because their parents disapproved of the marriage. I will give you the list of the tombstones I found.
Thanks for any help, dplummer @ kih.net Diana "Hook" Plummer

| Thomas Poe from Mason Co. Ky was one of the long line of Poe's who decended from Patrick Poe of Ulster Ireland. My Thomas Poe would be my great great grandfather. One of his sons was Nathan Poe who married Louisa Harber and they moved to Missouri. One of Nathan Poe's sons, who was also my grand father...Thomas Nathan Poe is listed in the Clay county MO. as Nathan Thomas Poe...which is incorrect. His whole life he went by Thomas Nathan Poe. Another of son of Nathan Poe's and brother to Thoamas Nathan ....was the famous John William Poe who helped capture Billy the Kid. John William Poe had moved to New Mexico and was a sheriff there in Roswell, NM. He married Sophie Alberding. She wrote his biography in a book called Buckboard Days. They were both pioneers in the unsettled country of New Mexico and I just wanted to share all the information Ii have about my family with others and information on this biography she wrote. Please contact me by email....both at rwin777@earthlink.net and also rwin777@aol.com I share a account on aol and sometimes have to check my mail in earthlink. Either email address is ok. I also have a juno email incase for somereason I later on loose my online services...so please list all email address I put down. bonesdigg @ juno.com Rita Winfrey (POE) Thanks... daughter of Helmer Poe... | There is plenty of information available on the Poe and Day families. The most extensive collection of genealogical information and family history is in three volumes Our Pioneer Ancestors: The Day and Hendrix (cks) Families with Poe and Allied Lines, by Ruth Hendricks Deverter. I have seen the Deverter books in three different libraries, and have heard that it is in several others; recently (1995) I received a copy of it (on long term loan from my mother's first cousin Joan Day Hughes) that originally belonged to my great Uncle Chalmer Dewey Day I. A 1976 book by Leonard F. Day, The Descendants of Christopher Day of Bucks Co., PA with a Supplement to the Ancient Families of Dee and Day in Wales, is available from University Microfilms in Ann Arbor, Michigan. A typewritten genealogy The Descendants of Christopher Day was printed and distributed by Chalmer Day, and concentrates on descendants of Isaac Day. Victor Stoner has compiled descendants of his great grandfather Edward Poe Day. There is a good listing of many of the descendants of Patrick Poe in Poe Families of America, by Lester D. Gardner, that was done circa 1920. Some biographical information can be found in published histories of Bucks County, PA, and Clermont Co., OH.(THE PRECEEDING WAS FOUND IN RON STONERS HOME PAGE) |

Posted by jaycogen @ jayco.net Rick Hambrock Another publication that probably isn't for sale but has genealogy information about the Poe's is Edgar Allan Poe, A Critical Biography by Arthur Hobson Quinn with a foreward by Shawn Rosenheim. It has a small genealogy chart in the book which tied my line into it. |
