Sgioba Luaidh Inbhirchluaidh
Gaelic Waulking Song Group
Who are we? ... Có sinne?

We are a group specialising in Gaelic work songs, particularly those which were sung by women when waulking the tweed. We are based in Greenock, Inverclyde, on the west coast of Scotland. Our name, Sgioba Luaidh Inbhirchluaidh, means  "Inverclyde Waulking Group".

My name is Frances Dunlop. I formed Sgioba Luaidh in 2000 with some friends, fellow-members of Greenock Gaelic Choir. Sadly, the Choir disbanded, but we were having so much fun singing
waulking songs that we decided to stay together as a group. We now have a dozen members, and have performed at many venues up and down the west coast, with even the occasional foray to the far east - Dunfermline and Edinburgh!

We hope you will find our website informative and enjoyable. The
News and Diary pages are updated regularly. Do contact us with any questions or comments. You can email us, or leave a message in our guest-book.
