Lt. Skeane S. Skeenes
"A force of seventy-four miners under the command of Captain James Burney, Sheriff of Mariposa County left Auga Fria January 6, 1851. On January 8th, in a pitched battle with the indeans, fought near Ahwahnee, Lt. Skeens was mortally wounded. He was buried by his comarades near the battlefield and moved to this site in 1970."
