Welcome to Lorane Highway

Lorane Highway is a quiet, tree-lined neighborhood street located in the south hills of Eugene, Oregon. It is part of an old country road that eventually leads to the Applegate Trail in Lorane. The 1.4 mile section of the road that is located within the Eugene city limits runs from West 29th Avenue at Washington to the current city limit (which coincides with the edge of the urban growth boundary) at Chambers Street. This part of the road was built in 1919 and 1920 by the Lane County Road Department and was taken into the city in stages. To this day, this old section retains most of its original contour road characteristics that provide a glimpse of living history of this area.

For decades, residents have felt this unique old road is a special asset worth preserving. We are now gathering information to complete an application to have Lorane Highway considered for a place on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a long, slow process that is being carried out by amateurs, but we are making steady progress.

This site tells of the history of Lorane Highway and its neighborhood and includes some photographs. There is opportunity for you to sign and add comments to the guestbook or view the old guestbook, and information about the petition that will accompany the National Historic Register application is included as well. And finally, there are links to related sites and to sites that illustrate a variety of daily concerns of Lorane Highway residents.

Feel free to contact us with comments or questions. And please come back to check our regular updates of new developments.

Enjoy!
