| Ragged Islands Historical Society Presents A Scenic Walking Tour of Lockeport |
| Lockeport is a pre-Loyalist community on the South Shore of Shelburne County, Nova Scotia and was first settled circa 1760 by families from the northeastern United States. Among the first to arrive in the area, which then was known as the "Ragged Islands" were Josiah Churchill and Jonathan Locke. Who preceded whom has long been disputed; however, it is the Locke family after which the town was named. During the 1800's, Ragged Islands flourished with it's fisheries and West Indies trade. The tourism industry was introduced in the late 1800's and made Lockeport an instant vacation spot for many Americans. This walking tour will give you a glimpse of the towns history, features scenic areas, beaches, and two lighthouses. |
