| Welcome to the web site with information about planning for a new library in Camp Verde. The project officially began in 2001 when the Commission presented a report to the Town Council recommending a new expanded library for the Town. The Commission looked at the present site numerous times and each time unanimously voted that it is too small to accomodate the future needs of the library. The property is in a flood plain which was an added concern. Hence a site search was begun. The first location considered was along the West side of the Public School Properties. At the same time, the Commission met with members of the Parks and Recreation Commission to look at options in a future regional park. A spot along 260 was selected and placed on the first Regional Park Conceptual Plan. The property acquired for the regional park does not include the location where the Library Commission had selected. There has not been any recommendation by the Commission for any location on the land acquired for the regional park. This location was followed by the Cliffs only to be superceded by the Downtown Central site with the Commission recommending Downtown along Fain Street just off Main Street. With as many times that the recommended site has changed, who knows where it will end up until we see a new library actually built. The challenge at any location is that of raising the needed funds and to get it built before another shift in opinion moves it yet again. During the process when a citizens group petitioned for the present site, I constructed this web site to provide information as to what the Commission had done to date and to give the public opportunity to give their input as to the site they would like. Information on various possible locations was posted to this web site and a survey conducted. TO VIEW THE VARIOUS SITES AND SURVEY RESULTS CLICK HERE. The public voted in my survey after viewing the various sites and reviewing the information for each site. Their top choices were first at Oasis Road along route 260, second at the present location and third downtown. The Commission reviewed all the sites and once again on June 21, 2007 recommended a site in the downtown area along Fain Street. Lack of water and sewer at Oasis were a drawback there although it received top billing by the public. Limited opportunity for growth and flood plain issues were reasons for the Commission to avoid the present site. The Council nevertheless voted for the present site. Much work remains to be done and who knows what may change along the way. A citizens group has captured the interest of several on the Council. Town staff are looking at funding and other options to present to Council. Considering the many changes, other options may yet emerge and the Council may change their vote before it is over. The Council selected site at the moment is at the present site. Regardless, continue to support the Camp Verde Community Library. HELP US GROW -- SUPPORT THE CAMP VERDE COMMUNITY LIBRARY |
