DAIKATANA Though many people did not like Daikatana, I on the other hand, Love it! Not for the game play but mostly for the amazing architecture throughout the game. OVERVIEW First act The first act starts out in a dark and gloomy environment and that is probably the reason why people might have gotten a bad idea about the game the first time they played it. Without many sprites and plenty of poorly modeled robotic animals you are stranded in this alien environment.
When you move through the levels you discover the game to be more and more interesting like in this seen were there seems to be an operation going on. The models are amazing for the "doctors" and the patients. There are also plenty of robots that tower about 4 feet over the player. Another interesting and well designed seen in the first act is when you first meat your buddy Superfly.
Not only the torture apparatus but other objects around the room are also well designed. The rest of the act isn't that good when looking form the architectural point. Second Act Second act is the best part of the whole game when looking and the level design and models. The whole episode is based on ancient Rome. It starts out in a canyon.
The models in this episode are awesome! This Statue of Zeus is awsome!
The level design is also awesome, just check out this building!
The way sprites are used to make other models look better is excellent in this episode.
You enemies are also very well designed. Just look at this skeleton warrior.
Third Act The third act is based on the middle ages and the opponent models get even better, although more weapons like a long sword or something like that would be great.
Above is a picture of an archer, another good model is a barbarian bellow (check out the claw weapon fat ey?) A mistake the artists may have made is making every model very low poly, and not using too many smoothing groups.
Above is the best model in the game, in my opinion, when he starts fighting his sword lights up and looks awesome!
Above is a staircase with stained glass windows at the top, the light effect are awesome! Fourth Act The fourth act is the grand finally of the game it the the best part of the whole game!
There are tons of amazing models like the plants above. The textures are so lifelike it seems like you are walking through an actual office building.
For the finally of the game u finally fight Mishima, and the submarine in the middle actually "floats" above the water. The cement texture is especially good! Over View The greatest mistake of John Romero was that he made the game start out very bad in an unpleasant environment with lots of glitches. I strongly believe that if that game were to start out with the fourth episode, or in an environment more like an office building or laboratories (like Mishima Labs) it would have been much more successful. Just look at a very popular game like Half-Life, it starts out in an office building, so the player can marvel at large open areas, and lifelike textures. A lot of well made models and interactive objects like the soda machine. After the player gets use to the game and loves every second of playing it, the game moves on to to something less appealing like Zen, which is an empty wasteland with just a couple pieces of floating land, which the player would most definately not have liked if he had to experience it at the beginning of the game.
