

Professor Leon Birnbaum was born in Chernovtsy (now Ukraine) on June 18, 1918 to a family of intellectual tradition. He studies at the Orthodox High School and then at the Faculty of Mathematics. In 1941 the war reaches Chernovtsy. Leon Birnbaum is deported in Transnistria at Magilev - Podolsk until 1944.
In 1946 he was appointed as a Mathematic teacher at Strehaia, Romania, then at Turnu - Severin and Dej. Meanwhile he obtains a title in Russian Language and Literature and then an engineering license in Machine Technology. Encouraged by friends, Leon Birnbaum starts to publish Mathematical and Logical articles in "Mathematical Studies and Research" magazine from Bucharest, "Notre Dame Journal of Formal Logics" magazine in USA and many others.
He's a member of "Association Internationale de Cybernetique" in Namur, Belgium and a member of the Redactional Board of the "Informatica" magazine in Ljubliana, Slovenia.
He's a honorable citizen of the ASTRA Division "Dr. Teodor Mihali" in Dej.
