here the sound of voices

Welcome to luminous misjudgment, a website for me, Lena Judith Drake, to promote my writing-- for the most part poetry, and some short stories. Feel free to take a look around, visit some of the publications' websites, leave commentary, or simply enjoy. Thank you.

The title of the website was based around "here the sound of voices"-- one of my poems, partially inspired by the body of some spam emails:

she makes another quick little movement
with her fingers
as if she is twirling something,
and the displaced grace seems intensified by your stare.
it is exquisitely lovely: it scares you out of your wits.
for the first time, you see everything with perfect clarity,
hell-bent for Misery in the crenellated passages
behind the idol's glowing forehead,
white skin,
and slender fingers.

it is an idea just silly enough to be impregnable,
this luminous misjudgment.
naturally, she is unhappy.
you are, too, now.
it is best to restrict that what isn't mentioned,
it is best avoided,
it will not be given away--
and therein lies the one great possibility of detection.

there are lights on the water of her eyes
that do not belong on land or sea.
