~ An old man is walking along the beach one morning and sees what appears to be someone dancing near the water.  As he moves closer, he realizes it is not someone dancing, but a young man reaching in the sand, picking up something and throwing it into the ocean.  The old man asked the young man what he was doing.  The young man tells him that he is throwing the starfish back into the ocean, "it will be getting hot soon and they will die out on the beach".  The old man replies, "You foolish boy, there are thousands of starfish on this beach, why do you think you can make a difference?"  The young man picks up another starfish and throws it into the ocean, looks up at the old man and says, "I made a difference to that one."

BOOK SPOTLIGHT
WE'RE DIFFERENT, WE'RE THE SAME
by Bobbie Jane Kates

Using the familiar Sesame Street Muppets and people, this book illustrates how different we are as individuals, yet how alike we are as people (or muppets, as the case may be).  For example, there is a page showing many different eyes.  The next page shows how these eyes are the same because they can all see, blink, weep and wink.
(Paperback, 32 pages, color, 1992, ages 2-6)

A child enters your home and for the next twenty years makes so much noise you can hardly stand it.  The child departs, leaving the house so silent you think you are going mad.
