What can I eat on Lowcarb KISS?

So what can you eat while following this plan? When you fill your plate, choose a normal size serving (i.e., 3-4 oz) of meat, and then fill your plate with vegetables.  Snack on vegetables and a small amount of meat.  Drink plenty of water in-between meals to keep up that "full" satiated feeling.  For maximum weight loss, choose very lean meats and use added fats sparingly.

I adapted the following list of KISS friendly foods using Dr. Atkins Rules for Induction food lists.

Meats:
Beef, Pork, Chicken, Lamb, Veal, Fish, Canned Tuna and Salmon, Turkey, etc.

Eggs

Vegetables:
Alfalfa Sprouts
Arugula
Bok Choy
Celery
Chicory
Chives
Cucumber
Endive
Escarole
Fennel
Jicama
Kale
Lettuce
Mushrooms
Parsley
Peppers
Radicchio
Radishes
Romaine
Sorrel
Scallions
Snow Pea Pods
Spinach

The only recommended added fat in the past has been olive oil. I now believe we can add another healthy version - flax oil. It can be found in health food stores - typically refrigerated. I recommend limiting oil consumption to 2 tablespoons per day. Many KISSers have had weight loss success using other oils, butter and mayonnaise, too.  Feel free to use vinegar and lots of sugar free seasonings.

In my opinion, decaffeinated, unsweetened coffee and tea should be fine, as long as you are getting enough water every day.

What is KISS?

KISS is a very strict, healthy form of lowcarbing-we basically eat real meats, eggs, unlimited low-med carb veggies, and some added fats and spices.

We avoid all dairy, processed meats, artificial sweeteners, and added chemicals.

By following this eating plan, you remove many foods that you may have "intolerance" to, or may cause   your weight loss to stall.

All of our carbs come from vegetables and a small amount from eggs and seasonings.  This should help induce a state of ketosis - where your body turns to fat, as it's primary energy source.

Typically by following this plan, your total daily calorie intake will be considerably lower than the Atkins Induction and OWL style WOE'S.

In order to find out what might cause your slow weight loss, you can add items slowly back into your daily diet.  Add items back one at a time, several days apart to give you an idea what the culprit might be.

Some items that may cause stalls are:
Caffeine
Cheese
Nitrates (found in processed meats)
Citric Acid (found in many diet soft drinks)
Artificial Sweeteners
Glycerin (found in most protein bars)
Too many calories
Alcohol
Too few calories for an extended period of time
Dehydration
KISS Guidelines - The Lowcarb Version

KISS stands for Keep It Simple Sweetie.  These guidelines are for the lowcarb KISS plan that several Lowcarbfriends from www.Atkinsfriends.com came up with in late 1999.
What should I avoid while KISSing?

Follow Dr. Atkins recommendations for induction as far as things like caffeine and alcohol.  Apparently its best to avoid those items.

Here are the obvious things to avoid:

Processed meats: Bacon, Ham, Sausage, Deli Luncheon Meats, Hot Dogs, Corned Beef, etc.
All artificial sweeteners
Dairy Products: Cheese, Cream, Yogurt, etc. (I believe the fat content of butter to be so high, that it should really not be a problem)
Processed Foods such as protein bars, powders, shakes, etc.

Even things like pickles and olives have preservatives.  It's best to avoid those added chemicals.

Good Luck!! Your lowcarbfriend, Flowerpower
