                                    Tungus Laikas
There were dozens of different ethnic groups and people in northeastern Europe and across Siberia all the way to the Pacific.  This is similar to what American settlers found across American continents, calling them all collectively Indians.  Tungus was a collective name used by Russians for naming many people in East Siberian.  Now, this name is only historical, it was replaced by several specific names for ethnic groups with different languages, dialects and customs.  Tungus became Evens and Evenks.  They are the most hunting tribes of all, some made living exclusively by hunting and some kept reindeer and hunted.  There are other peoples in Siberia, for example, Yakuts.  Yakuts do not hunt as much as others. They keep cows and horses in southern part of the country and reindeer in the north, they never had as good hunting Laikas as the Evens and Evenks (Tungus is in the past)....  Information provided by
Vladimir Beregovoy.
