For over 10 years the Friends of Glencoe Cove have been involved with the Corporation of Saanich and the community regarding parkland, native plant and archaeological concerns. The Friends secured  $3.75 million in funding from the Province and Saanich in 1994 to help establish Glencoe Cove - Kwatsech Park,  the last ocean front nature park to be created in Saanich.

Nature Canada magazine featured Glencoe Cove where is described its coastal forest ecosystem as one of the most threatened in Canada. While coastal forests only comprise 0.25% of BC, they contain 20-25% of its rare plants, yet less than 1% of these forests are protected. The Garry oak ecosystem and related ecosystems form the park which hosts such COSEWIC listed rare species such as Macoun's meadowfoam and the Duns Skipper butterfly.

Together with Mount Douglas Park, Margaret's Beach, Vantreight Park and Ferndale Forest these parks create a greenway that serve as an important strand in the web of life in this entire region.
