Thanks for visiting my homepage!
I made this page at 1024x768 resolution. Although this might work with 800x600 resolution, it might make some undesireable text wrap.
About this page...
It's been a while since I fooled around the rec.video.desktop newsgroup. And, a lot of people have asked about MPEG and VCD creation. But, usually people recommended capture cards or setup that they have experience with. Therefore, the newbie who asked the question could be confused since all other people recommend all other things. I was once like that, but I actually tried everything to find what is best for me - well, in fact, I wanted to get the BEST quality, even if I had to edit each frame using photoshop. Now, I think I had some experience with this matter, so I want to share what I got.
This homepage contains some answers for the questions asked a lot of times as well as some info and comparisons between methods. Hope you can find what you want here.
How I started this.
The reason I started on researching this matter was really stupid. About 2 years ago, I bought CD-RW paying $400. One of my friend wanted to get it too, and tried to find some good one. Well, by the way, one day, I found Philips CD-RW with Snazzi bundle for $330. It was really a great deal at that time and I promised him that I will buy Snazzi for $100 if he affords it. But my friend unfortunately missed that deal. Because of that, I could imagine what I can do with video capture, and since that, I got interested in that.
What I got first was Dazzle DVC. At that time, I didn't know anything about video format or codecs, so I just interested in the word "200x" compression. But, the quality wasn't really good. Although I didn't know how does it compare to others, I just wanted to get some better quality, and started my own research for that. Now, it's been about one and half years since I started my research and I could get some experience for this matter.
Final notes.
Please note below facts before you enter...
- All things in this site are about making MPEG clips using cheap equipment. Therefore, quality might not be as good as ones produced from thousands of equipment, although I haven't seen one from thousands of equipment.
- Recommended things in this page might be different from what you might be using for tape production since this is about MPEG creation, NOT TAPE-OUTPUT type of editing.
- I have no experience with PAL format, so all things are based on NTSC. However, probably everything is the same as NTSC except the telecine thing.
- For people who have slow connection, I tried not to put any unnecessary graphics and fancy sounds. So, although the layout is very simple, please understand this.
- To reduce the file size, all downloadable pictures posted in this site are in JPEG format. I will use high quality setting so it won't make any JPEG artifacts and it will be probably almost the same as the source.
- I put the most priority of the site on demonstration. As everybody knows, just explaining things are not enough. So I tried to put samples in every section that can demonstrate the explanations.
- All things in this site are what I experienced and experimented. Therefore, I can't say whether these are absolute ways. If there was someone who had far more extensive testing than me, probably he or she could find some better way.
- If you want to bookmark this page (am I asking too much?) please bookmark this page. Since my homepage is still under construction, I don't know when I will change the name of the pages. If you bookmark any further page, you may not be able to come back. Also, if I ever make any mirror sites, I will put it here.
Ready? Then...
