Welcome to my first web page!

I built this page so that old friends and new would have a place to visit me.  I have friends and family all over the country, and we are all so busy that it can be difficult to stay in touch.  Even when we are in touch, telephone calls and e-mail are so ephemeral.  I really appreciate checking out friends' web pages to find out the latest in their lives, so I decided to reciprocate.

So pull up a comfy chair and visit for a while!  Thanks for stopping by. :)

By the way, most pictures are linked to other sites with related content.

Me with the windblown look--makes bangs magically disappear!
For the past 10 years, I have spent about one month per year in the region of San Luis Obispo, California visiting my mother and sister.  Those twice yearly visits recharged my energy stores for performing in the rest of my life.

Los Osos and Morro Bay are near SLO, and are beautiful little towns full of friendly people.  SLO itself is a college town, so it's a little funky, and has a decent cultural life.
My World  (i.e., where I spend my time)
I currently live in Atlanta, Georgia (in the Buckhead area, for those of you keeping score at home).

Although I've been here since 1996, I can't say I know the city well because my most traveled route is between my apartment and campus.
My favorite city in the world is Santa Monica, California.

While growing up I sought refuge there from the swelting Pasadena summers.  I lived nearby when I was attending UCLA, and never grew tired of the ocean breezes, the art galleries, the still-relatively-liberal city politics, and the diversity of its people.

This is my kitty, Maya, who is now about 6 years old.  She's long and lean, has long, fine hair, and she's gorgeous.

Although she's not a lap cat, she is a very good companion.  She is always somewhere nearby whether I'm sleeping, working, or taking a shower.

She's extremely playful, and loves for me to chase her around the apartment--sometimes she puffs her fur out and looks scared while being chased, but it's like she's just enjoying the thrill of being a little scared, and she gets very upset when the chase game ends!

She's also quite assertive about getting her needs for affection met, and I have to admire that.
A few of my favorite things
Joni Mitchell is my all-time favorite musical recording artist.  My small CD collection is disproportionately composed of Joni's music.  Although I am acquiring CDs at a snail's pace (hey, it's tough on a grad student's income), I expect to have all of her music in my collection at some point.  I just got her latest, Both Sides Now, and it's fantastic.  Her voice and style were made for these jazz standards.  Don't miss it.  Also, the link at left will take you to one of the best sites on the web devoted to any musician.  Everything you ever wanted to know about Joni is represented, and in a tasteful, well-organized manner.
To the right are then & now photos of the cast of The New Mickey Mouse Club from the late 1970s (also now known as "Disco Mice" to distinguish them from the 1950s and 1990s MMC incarnations).

The main reason I included these photos is for my friend, Linda.  She and I were *major* fans of the NMMC when we were still in the prepubescent stage.  We watched the television show, joined the fan clubs, went to Disneyland to see them perform whenever possible, and wrangled an introduction to Pop (who subsequently attended my birthday party, and we attended his).  Those were really fun times.  I have never engaged in such fandom since that time.

It's nice to see (from the picture) that we've all grown up.
Photo from 1992 reunion.  Pictured are (L to R):  Kelly Parsons, Shawnte Northcutte, Allison Fonte, Todd Turquand, Angel Florez, Curtis Wong, Pop Attmore, Mindy Feldman, Lisa Whelchel, and Julie Piekarski.
Pippi Longstocking was another of my childhood favorites.  Because she lived independently, maintained her individuality, didn't take crap from anyone, and still had a good time, she was my hero and my inspiration.  I'm sure I carried a lot of Pippi spirit to get me through turbulent times as a kid.  I recently purchased all four Pippi movies on videocassette from e-bay.

One of my favorite radio stations is KOTR out of Cambria, California.  Click the logo at left to visit their web site.  Unfortunately, they no longer broadcast over the net, which is heartbreaking.  They got me through the long hours of writing my entire Master's thesis, and I miss everything about them, particularly Marty Scala's nightly Planet Waves show.
My beloved 1983 Honda Civic 1500S served me faithfully for about 14 years.  Finally, in June of 2000, it signaled me that it was ready to retire to a cooler climate (with a broken air conditioner which would reportedly cost at least $1000 to repair).  After many years of fun driving, reliability, and incredible gas mileage, I have decided to let my little red friend motor on to quieter highways.  I hope it will be in the company of another appreciative driver who will treat it with love and allow it to live out the remainder of its years with dignity and proper care.  Click on Civic photo to see more photos of my little red pal!
Cruising the virtual aisles of ebay is one of my favorite ways to find unique and beautiful things.  Click on the ebay logo at left to view some of my winnings!
My
Finds
Radioparadise.com is the net-only, commercial-free radio station that filled that gap left for me by the demise of KOTR's streaming media.   It's run out of the home of a married couple in Paradise, CA.  The webcam on the site often shows "Wild Bill" at work in the studio, lending a personal touch that's absent from so many of the pre-programmed netradio-type sites.  In the months that have passed since I got through my doctoral exam studies w/their help, it appears that a small community of daily listeners has been built.  Good stuff.
My Mother, Diane Wild
The world lost an amazing woman on March 19, 2003.   I am currently constructing a page about her, and will provide a link here when it's ready for viewing.
MeShell NdegeOcello is an incredibly talented and completely underrated musician.  You can usually find one of her CDs in my player.  Critics love her.  Her 2002 album was nominated for a grammy for Best R&B Album.  Yet, the larger music-buying public, now used to being told by record companies what their preferences are, remains largely ignorant of her rich, dazzling, funky, sensual and soulful body of work.   Click on her photo at right to visit the best website about MeShell and her music, www.freemyheart.com.
