Writing Kashmiri in Devnagari script, using Lalded font is easy. Just go through these easy-to-follow steps:

Step 1: Checking for fonts
What do you see in the green column to the left of this page? If you see the lyrics of a Kashmiri song written in Devnagari, you already have the Lalded font installed. If you see meaningless English words, you need to install the font.

Step 2: Installing the fonts
Click on the "Install font" link below. This should open a Word document which will automatically install the font for you. When you click the link provided in the Word document, you will be brought back to this page and you will then be able to see the difference in the left column.
Install font

If the Word document isn't opened but downloaded, open the downloaded document in Word by double-clicking on it.
If this doesn't work, you will have to click here to download the font file (Lald001.tff) and copy it to your fonts folder (generally c:\windows\fonts\). Then reload this page. If you still have problems, send us a mail through Feedback section of this site.

Step 3: Start typing
Now that the fonts have been installed, you are ready to go. Open Word (or Wordpad) and change font to "Lalded". When you type k you will get k . See the complete keymap by clicking here. You will not need key-board stickers. The mapping is simple to follow. When you start typing, you will remember what lies where.

Some tips
1. The font looks better in larger size (18pt and bigger) and italics.
2. In Word turn AutoCorrect partially off (Click Tools, AutoCorrect and clear checkmarks against "Correct TWO INitial capitals" and "Capitalize first letter of sentences"). Also, hide those wavy red and green lines by clicking Tools, Options, Spelling&Grammar, and putting checkmarks against "Hide spelling errors in this document" and "Hide grammatical errors in this document".
3.In case of some pairs of letters you may see there is not enough space between the two. Inserting an exclamation mark (!) will solve the problem.

Vowels/consonants typical to Kashmiri
