| Escalante Council was founded in 1906 through the efforts of the men of Eureka, Utah. The headquarters moved to Provo, Utah, where it was renamed the Escalante Council. It is named after Father Silvestre de Escalante, who was the journalist for the Dominguez-Escalante Expedition sponsored by the Spanish government in 1776. This expedition brought the first non-Native Americans and the first Catholics to the Utah Valley in 1776 For more information on Friar Escalante, visit the Parish History at St. Francis of Assisi Parish Web Page. The Escalante Council works closely with the St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Orem, providing funds for various projects, especially our drive to build our new church. Our members are active participants in our parish and hold various positions of responsibility within our parish community. We also serve as Eucharistic Ministers, Altar Servers, choir members, ushers and greeters at all Masses in our parish. Council 1136 is over 100 years old!! |
