| Quirky, striking, brunette actress with throaty voice who
seemed to have scored an immediate hit in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
(1982), her first movie. Alley's career stalled almost immediately,
largely due to personal problems, but she rebounded after replacing
Shelley Long on the "Cheers" TV show from 1987 to 1993. (She
subsequently won an Emmy for her performance.) Her newly discovered flair
for comedy translated to the big screen only fitfully in comedies such as
Summer School (1987), Look Who's Talking (1989), Madhouse, Sibling Rivalry
and Look Who's Talking Too (all 1990), along with Look Who's Talking Now
(1993). Married to actor Parker Stevenson. |
