Spotlight on        Tinnyse Johnson

Behind every dark cloud is a silver lining.  Seventeen-year-old Tinnyse Johnson has proven this to be true.  She has faced several challenges in her young life but has managed to come away from them wiser, stronger and with a new determination to succeed in life.

Tinnyse had to miss five months of school when she was in the tenth grade after being in the hospital with a broken arm, leg and other injuries.  During this time, she began to evaluate her life, look within herself and make a decision to change.

According to Tinnyse at the age of 13 she started clubbing, drinking, swearing and dressing provocatively.  She was also in a relationship that contributed to her becoming rebellious and going against everything she believed in.  However in the end her boyfriend left her.  This devastated her but made her realized that man may fail you but Jesus Christ never will.  Now at this point in her life Tinnyse has no boyfriend.  A boyfriend just doesn’t fit into the picture right now,” she says.  I’m trying to find time for school, church, ministry and myself.

This remarkable teen is a senior at St George's High School. Her cumulative g.p.a is a 2.99, which she is proud of, as she was able, through hard work and determination, to bring it up from the 1.9 g.p.a she had in tenth grade.

Tinnyse has passed five B.J.C’s with two A’s, two B’s and one C.  At school she is involved with the Christian Student Movement Club (CSM) and the Meet me at the Pole prayer group.  She was the President of the Christian Student Movement Club last year and now holds the distinguished position of Junior Advisor.  She also tutors seventh and eighth grade students who need help in certain subject areas.  Tinnyse enjoys dancing, singing and cooking.  She is involved with the dance ministry and youth praise team at her church.

This ambitious teen has big plans for the future.  She plans to further her education by studying Business Administration and also the Executive Secretary field.  Her reason for this is that one day, she would like to have a program where she could help high school dropouts (females) earn their high school diploma and also certificates in secretarial skills.

Friendship is very important to Tinnyse.  She met her best friend Siadra when she transferred to St. Georges from Nassau in 11th grade.  When I went to St. George’s Siadra introduced herself to me,” she said.  We clicked instantly and we’ve been friends ever since.  When I feel like giving up she’s there for me.  If it wasn’t for her I would probably still have an attitude problem.”

Tinnyse has won awards several awards in school as well as at her church.  The one that means the most to her however is the Christian Attitude Award.  She’s proud of this because earlier in her life she was always in the office for being rude or in some form of trouble.  In fact,” she said “I never even dreamt I would graduate, I was so caught up in the things I was doing now here I am, only a few months away from graduation and it’s only by God’s grace.”

Tinnyse’s advice to young teens is, “get involve in something positive.  There’s more to life than dressing up, looking pretty and being in love with a boy.  Remember, whatever you sow in life is what you’re going to reap.  Let God mold you into the women he wants you to be don’t rush life, enjoy where you are right now.” (Well said Tinnyse, well said)
