TRY PLAYING A ROUND USING ONLY YOUR PUTTER. DRIVE WITH IT, APPROACH WITH IT, AND OF COURSE, PUTT WITH IT.
PRACTICE TIPS....... Try practicing your long approaches flat footed. Use your wrist and arm with a lot of snap. The less body movement you have on these, the better your accuracy! You should be able to park 200' to 250'. Find tree or bush about 150' from the basket. Stand with your back toward your target, plant your feet and throw "goofy footed". Now, in the same spot, face your targert and practice forehand. This will save you a stroke when you find yourself in this predicament! ALWAYS PRACTICE TROUBLE SHOTS, THE PROS DO!
DRIVING TIPS Find an open field to practice your driving skills. Don't try to throw to the moon, work on accuracy. Distance will come as you throw! 80% is all you need. Throw everything in yer bag to warm up, then work with the disc you have the most trouble controlling. Make it work for you! Throw it long! Throw it short! Huck it upside down! Show it whose the boss! When you feel that you've become comfortable with your "bad plastic", then reward yourself with a good, controlable driver! Work on hyzer, anhyzer and unconventionable shots. Try to make your plastic do what it is NOT designed to do! NEVER PRACTICE DRIVES ON A DISC GOLF COURSE! Ball golfers practice on a driving range and so should you!
always stretch before you play. Nothing worse than pulled muscles or hyperextended elbow!
Know the rules and observe them at all times....and don't fart when someone is putting..it's bad etiquette...and it stinks.
Have FUN when you play. Don't kick yer bag or cuss out loud. Don't blame someone else 'cos you threw a bad shot. "How dare you throw while someone is talkin'". Can't blame others, you threw the shot! If you can't control yourself, go home!
If you have trouble controlling a particular disc, try playing 9 holes with that disc only! Warm up in a field then use what you learned in practice to drive, approach and putt with the offending disc! If you still don't like it, give it away to your favorite Cub Scout. Bet he'll learn to throw it!!
NEVER throw at 100%! You lose direction and accuracy. You'll find that 80% will get you to your target with less throws!
note for AGGIES ONLY..if you want me to use smaller words, let me know.......(hook 'em)
Remember...when you play this sport, behave and watch your "bad habits".. Folks tend to judge disc golfers by their actions on the course. Pick up trash as you go and "pack out what you pack in". Use the john if needed and if one is not available, please be discreet! Be aware if you use "adult substances". And watch yer language!! Using LOUD profanities may burn the ears of women, children and sissie men. Disc golf is a sport to be enjoyed by all!
UPDATED FEBRUARY 2006
|
don't throw white plastic if it's snowing, don't throw any plastic after eating greasy french fries..(for you aggies, french fries are them long tater pieces ya git with yer hamburger)
Make sure you use your putting practice wisely! Try to become proficient at the 30' range. Then you can be aggressive at long approaches and have confidence that you can hit your putts within that 30' range. One mistake amatuers make is not being aggressive enough, or too aggressive, from 100' +. They fear missing a come backer if they fly-by. If you gain confidence from 30', you'll shave off a stroke or two!

If you are one that becomes distracted easily, calmly wait until the distraction passes. Don't throw and then WHINE about it if your shot bounces off the local wino. If you choose to throw when distracted, it's your fault, not the wino's!
#1. DINK - the sound made when your putt hits the basket instead of the chains.
#2. CLINK - the sound made when you hit the top of the basket insted of the chains!
CHING - the sound made when you hit the chains, not the top or bottom of the basket!
#3. #*<@&+%#=$ - the sound made when you "DINK" or "CLINK" a 20 footer! (this sound, with different variations, is also heard when you "CHING" and the putt spits out!)

DO NOT step in a gopher hole!! Gopher holes are made for gophers, not for the human foot! If you step in a gopher hole you will find yourself doing the Indian Pain Dance and making funny faces. Your ankle will then swell to enormous proportions and make any drive over 150' an impossibility! You may also hear the sound explained above in #3. Not to mention, it hurts like hell!
