If you've never been to Chico on the 31st of October, you don't know the meaning of Halloween
Ok, maybe you do...it's just a different meaning from ours *eg*
Every year, approximately 10,000 people come from all over the United States to spend their Halloween holidays in the small college town of Chico, California. It was compared to Mardi Gras in San Luis Obispo, but it came nowhere close to the amount of people that come dressed as things like cigarette cartons, Gumpy and Pokey, the Natural Light Beerman is always popular among frat guys who can't find costumes at the last minute, mobsters, Cinderella's, flappers, Malibu Rum bottles (heh), giant condems, lots of gynecologists and nurses, and of course, lots of people impersonating Mormons. Now why would 10,000 college students want to come here? Because, its where the pizza places stay open all night, everyone is dressed up and drunk by midnight, and its the only town that has a concert going in the park downtown and people are dancing and enjoying themselves without beating the shit out of each other. These are pictures of my second Halloween in Chico. My roommates were the Three Amigos and I was El Guapo.
Here's a little history on Chico's fame
In 1991, Playboy magazine rated Chico State as the #1 party school in the United States
"Riley's" a bar on 5th St. and Ivy, down the road from where I live, is always rated high in Playboy's list of College Bars.
Last year, on the cartoon, "King of the Hill" one of the kids said, "I dont want to go to Harvard, I want to go to a party school like Chico State."
That's it. We don't claim to be big, but if you come, you'll understand why there are a gazillion people around you :)
And now, to reward you for getting through the paragraphs of rubbish above, here are the pictures from our Halloween in Chico in 1998.
This is us, sober, before we left
This is the balcony of our apartment. My punkin, named after my pal, pb, is the one on the table, Karin's is the elephant man pumpkin sitting on the chair.
From left to right: Todd as "Elder Rademacher", Kelly as "Lucky Day", Andrew as a San Luis Obispo Lifeguard, Karin as "Dusty Bottoms", Me as "El Guapo" and Lisa as the other one I cant remember right now.
This is us about midnight downtown in the park with Gumby and Pokey. I mean, how can you not take a picture with Gumby and Pokey?
Karin and Andrew...Arent they just adorable? :)
By this time, I had been posessed by El Guapo and I had this urge to go beat pinata's and ride horses.
|
Erica, Tim and Karin. Erica goes to Sonoma State and is friends with Lisa and Kelly. Tim is HOT and he makes me wanna go to Sonoma :)
Erica, Tim and Todd around 1:30 before we zonked out while watching The People Under the Stairs...and and look, its my bike. Please notice the lamp is crooked and the top is bent....whenever we come home drunk, someone knocks it over...usually Lisa. We're waiting for it to totally break in half.
This is the group......and I'm not in it.....but its cute any how
Go home
