MUM'S BABY SISTER
This is a story of the youngest in our family, beginning in the eyes of an eight+ year old. My
little friend one day said me, "Your mother is having a baby". "How do you know I asked"?
"She's got a big tummy". As she was always thin I just thought she was eating too much or just getting fat. What did I know those days?

The time came when mother went to hospital, an aunty came to stay with us, a real fun aunt
to have around. She began to make the surprise homecomming a basinett (above) with layers
of white net and pink satin ribbons, when we all heard the news of a baby sister 8lbs-6ozs. It
was the most beautiful thing I had seen in those days for a baby. That era children were not
allowed in hospitals, so we anxiously waited for them to come home to us. The morning came arriving home in dad's car all running outside to see them. She was such a lovely baby to me all dressed in mother's knitted layette, and dark hair just like me when I was born.

We all had our nurse before she was put down to sleep, looking at her sleeping I thought she
looked just like a baby princess sleeping the beautiful basinett. The above pic shows just how proud I was of her, the smile couldn't be any bigger! My older sister held her like babies should be! :-) She was 3 months old. She replaced my dolls for a while, wheeling her around getting into trouble going "out of sight". Well the wheels kept going didn't they, that's what prams are for! :-) She was a real cutie, as a toddler when in trouble my older sister and brother would hide her saying, "be quiet" our mother not impressed! :-). A little older she was a real devil playing in water at the backyard tap, making sups of tea for her dolls and teddy.

Yes, she was a little spoiled, we took her around melbourne to various places as she was growing older, no trouble to take anywhere. Not like kinder (pre-school) she always came home!  School she enjoyed, in her last years to get extra pocket money, after dinner the dishes done, everyone relaxed watching TV, she would come in with book and pen in hand, "I'm taking orders for supper!  If you want a sandwich toasted, you'll have to pay extra or
make it yourself! How cunning is that? :-) hahaha. We had a clever girl on our hands that's for sure!!!  She would flash those big brown eyes at dad, he'd say, "How much" with hand in pocket! :-)  Why didn't I think of that? lol
She married and has two adult daughters. We get on well standing together chatting being the two shortest in the family.  We don't suffer with crook necks!!  hehe
