Boiling Springs is located in Cleveland County in what is referred to as the foothills of North Carolina. It is about 45 miles west of Charlotte, 70 miles east of Asheville, 45 miles south of Hickory and Morganton, and 35 miles north of Spartanburg, SC.
The town was named from an underground spring located now on the campus of Gardner-Webb University. The spring measurers 4 or 5 feet across and bubbled up to eight inches above the surface, the spring was an attraction where folks from miles around came to drink its waters.
