Monday, May 22nd, 2006: Houston Catcher Eric Munson Captures Player of the Week Honor Eric Munson carried the Houston Astros on his shoulders over the last seven days, earning National League Player of the Week honors in the process. Showing impressive bat speed, the club's catcher logged a 1.000 BA, pushed home 7 runners, and launched 2 homeruns. Thus far in the 2006 season, Munson has belted 8 hits in 34 at-bats, laced 2 doubles and no triples and unloaded 2 shots into the seats. His current batting average is .235, and he has produced 8 RBI and scored 3 times, while playing in 21 games.
Tuesday, May 16th, 2006: GSBL 06 News: Draft Pool revealed Scouts have begun to salivate! The list of players for the first-year player draft has been released by the league office, and speculation is already beginning about who will end up as the first pick. The list has been posted and will be there for the next 30 days leading up to draft day. Teams now have a chance to scout the draft pool until the draft is held.
Monday, May 15th, 2006: Cincinnati Signs Grant Unknown to General Manager Position Grant Unknown met with reporters as he began his tenure as Cincinnati Reds general manager. "To be frank," he admitted, "I expect a tough haul these first few months. I've got to assess this club from the ground up--the whole organization. Until I do that, this club is very vulnerable." Unknown urged the media to have restraint, saying that it will take time to implement his strategy to develop a perennial winner.
Monday, May 15th, 2006: Los Angeles Announces Signing of Brad Deangelis as their New General Manager Los Angeles 's newly signed GM, Brad Deangelis took time out of his busy schedule to visit an area children's hospital. Deangelis offered a rare glimpse into his personal side when the media caught up with him. "These kids put things in perspective. Sometimes you get caught up in the details, take things for granted. You really need to take a step back and give back to the fans, especially those who are less fortunate. I have a lot of work ahead of me in Los Angeles , but it's nothing compared to what these kids go through every day. My job is easy."
Monday, May 15th, 2006: Catcher Posada Re-Signs with New York for $62,320,000 New York officials and Jorge Posada shook hands on a $62,320,000 deal today. The extension will keep Posada from becoming a free agent for at least 4 years. In 2006 Posada, the New York catcher, is hitting at a .297 clip so far, picking up 38 hits along the way. He has piled up these numbers: .362 OBP, 14 RBI, 18 runs, and 5 home runs, while striking out 32 times.
Sunday, May 14th, 2006: Schmidt Totally Dominates Dodgers in Shutout Win Jason Schmidt of the San Francisco Giants mixed and matched his way to a shutout today. The 33-year-old hurler shut down Los Angeles 's offense, holding it to 3 hits. He struck out 9 while walking 2. The 2006 season translates one way to Schmidt: wins and losses. That's what he is paid to do. Currently, here is the way his season is going: a record of 3-5 with 49 strikeouts and 22 bases on balls in 62 innings, and a 4.50 ERA.
Sunday, May 14th, 2006: Outstanding Outing for Pitcher Hudson, Blanks the Nationals Tim Hudson of the Atlanta Braves was masterful today, pitching a shutout against the Washington Nationals. Up to this point in 2006 Tim Hudson has a record of 4 wins and 4 losses with 44 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched with a 3.19 ERA.
Monday, May 8th, 2006: Tampa Bay Reach Agreement with Mr Unknown as Newly Seated General Manager Marred by front-office turnover after last season, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays ushered in a new general manager today. Mr Unknown was introduced at a luncheon earlier. The 29-year-old told the fans and media in attendance that he expected to earn their support. "I'm not going to mince words," promised Unknown, "I haven't earned your respect yet. If I do, it will be because I've put together a solid ballclub with the attitude it takes to compete at this level. But I have a lot of confidence in my ability to do so, and I think there's enough talent here to start building something special."
