The Mocean
story begins in early 1998, when Justin and Malcolm met at the Noarlunga school
of music and began rehearsing material composed by Justin. It wasn't long before
they began looking for a bass player to round out their sound. Six months later
bassist Carl joined the group and the Mocean sound was born. The members of
the band describe their sound as a mixture of Jazz, Rock, Pop and Funk genres.
With influences as varied as Dave Brubeck, Primus, Jimi Henderix and D.I.G.
Most of the compositional duties are handled by Justin, although all take part
in the arrangement and the writing for their own instruments. Being quite a
new outfit, Mocean are looking forward to reaching their full potential as a
unit and to playing as many shows as possible, as it is playing live that they
enjoy the most.
Mocean believe they have a high quality, diverse, unique and entertaining sound that they can deliver to their audience. They have already played for audiences at the Exeter Hotel, the Rhino Room, the Governor Hindmarsh and the Seven Stars Hotel, to name a few. They are looking forward to growing and evolving as a band and exposing their music to as many people as possible.
