WISBECH
RNLI FUNDRAISING
GUILD
Welcome to the Wisbech fundraising guild for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute. Those of you who know the area are probably thinking that Wisbech is an inland town so why does it have a RNLI branch ?
The Wisbech branch is known as a fundraisng committee and we raise funds that are put towards the upkeep of the Lifeboat fleet and the rescue of people at sea. There are numerous towns and cities that have RNLI branches and even those towns that have lifeboats will have a separate fundraising committee.
Why do we raise money?
We raise funds because the RNLI is entirely funded by donations from you. Great Britain is one of the few countries in the World where there is a first class maritime rescue service which has no contributions from the country's government. The money raised goes towards the upkeep of the 222 lifeboat stations around the country. All lifeboat men (or women) are volunteers and give their time and sadly occasionally their lives for those in trouble at sea.
What does the Wisbech Guild do?
We raise funds by holding quiz nights and selling souvenirs at various events such as the Wisbech Rose Fair, those present at the parade of floats in 1999 may remember seeing a lifeboat in the procession. In addition to this we have an annual flag day collection and also partake in National collections organised in connection with High Street companies and supermarkets.
