| The Jujutla Foundation (Who-Whoot-La) Foundation was created and founded in 2004 by Ryan Neal, a Peace Corps Volunteer serving two years as a member of the Municipal Development Program in El Salvador. The Foundation is a privately financed student aid initiative benefiting the students of his small, rural community. The problems facing many rural communities of El Salvador include extreme poverty, illiteracy, and lack of incentives to learn. The majority of adults in Jujutla are illiterate; therefore, enslaving people to the land, prohibiting them to pursue financial opportunities to better their lives. This, in turn, aids in the perpetual cycle of poverty for future generations. |

| Salvadoran Education: The Government of El Salvador pays for the student's grade school education (grades one through nine). However, the funding stops after ninth grade and many families can not afford to send their children to high school. As a result, most of the children, as young as fourteen years old, begin their life working 10 hour days in the corn and sugar cane fields, and in the surrounding mountains picking coffee for as little as $3.50/day. |
