Reggie Mantle is what is known as your typical sarcastic, braggart jock, who seems to think that
he is the greatest man in the world (and he lets people know that every 5 minutes just to make
sure!)
Granted, Reggie has some good points. He's a terrific athlete, and has won many trophies and
ribbons, only to brag about them 5 years after he won them every 5 minutes...
He's also got a particularly witty sense of humour...unfortunately, he's the only one who thinks
so, since everyone else dismisses it as sarcasm or cruelty.
And, because his ego is larger than the Empire State Building, he claims that he can get any
woman he wants, and while he has dated Betty occasionally and tries to take Veronica away from
Archie all the time, his real sights go towards, Midge Klump, who happens to be dating Reggie's
nemesis, Moose Mason, who if he catches Reggie near Midge, will proceed to use Reggie as a
punching bag.
But, nobody said that the beholder of the world's biggest ego had it easy!
His dad is named Ricky Mantle...his mom is still nameless to my knowledge.
He has won awards for Football, Track and Field, Baseball, Basketball and Tennis, but lost a Tiddlywinks tournament to Archie which forced him to stop bragging for 2 weeks.
When he joined a fraternity, his initiation was to destroy his mirrors and his comb!
In the New Archies, Reggie owned a dalmatian named Lance.
In some of the earlier comics, Reggie's name was spelled Mantel, not Mantle.
Reggie is the only male in the Archie Comics history to have distinctly different hairstyles, including hippie sideburns, slicked back 1950's do, even a ponytail in the early 1990's!
Reggie almost choked to death on a sandwich when he was a camp counselor, but one of his campers, a girl named Molly, saved his life.
Reggie has been a lifeguard, a camp counselor, and has come up with several get-rich quick schemes that seem to blow up in his face when he is conned by Jughead or Archie.
Reggie plays the guitar for the Archies.
