Batik - What is it? Batik (ba-teek’) art is created by taking plain fabric and painting designs on it with melted wax. The cloth is then dipped in dye. The places that are waxed resist the dye and remain the original color. This is repeated for multiple colors, starting with the lightest colors and ending with the darkest. Finally, the wax is removed, leaving the design or picture. |
