| Along with Jenny Wright and Rocky Horror Picture Show
costar (and future nightclub hostess) Nell Campbell, this petite, sexy
British actress (billed as Joanne Whalley) played one of the groupies
pursuing rock star Bob Geldof in the bombastic musical Pink Floyd-The Wall
back in 1982. From that bit she went on to more substantial roles, in
films like No Surrender and Dance With a Stranger (both 1985), The Good
Father (1987), and did excellent work as a beautiful nurse in British TV's
"The Singing Detective" (1986). She played the gutsy bad girl
turned good in the fantasy spectacular Willow (1988) and subsequently
married her costar, actor Val Kilmer, with whom she also worked in 1989's
little-seen thriller Kill Me Again Whalley-Kilmer enjoyed a star-making
role as Britain's notorious good-time girl Christine Keeler in Scandal
(1989); if the film had been a mainstream Hollywood product, instead of an
import, it might have been her ticket to stardom. Instead, she's played a
thankless part in the dim-witted Mideast war drama Navy SEALS (1990), and
a colorful character part that threatened to steal the spotlight from
femme lead Greta Scacchi in Shattered (1991). Recent credits include David
Hare's The Secret Rapture (1993), A Good Man in Africa, Mother's Boys and
Trial by Jury (all 1994). She also starred in the much-anticipated
miniseries "Scarlett" (also 1994), stepping into Vivien Leigh's
shoes as Scarlett O'Hara. |
