The Riley Fire Department was founded in 1922 due to a fire related fatality. The department was staffed by a hand-full of volunteers from the community who saw the need for fire protection in this rural North-East Kansas community.
This department proudly protects the 940+ citizens of this community with the intent to serve, assist, save life and property, and to provide the best fire protection possible to the members of this community who work and live here.
The department is still 100% volunteer, and conducts training on a monthly basis.
Many things have changed in the 86 years this department has been in existence and many changes will continue to take place. These changes will continue to evolve in order for the department to provide the needed protection for everyone who calls Riley their home.

The City of Riley has a ISO Class 7 rating.

The City of Riley requires you to have a burn permit!
Please contact the Riley City Clerk @ 785-485-2802 for more information regarding how to get a controlled burn application and its use and restrictions.

The Riley Fire Department is currently taking applications for Volunteer Firefighters, or Kansas registered - First Responders, MICT's, or EMT's who would like to join us as a Volunteer Firefighter!
If you are at least 18 yrs of age, have a valid KS DL, reside in/near Riley, and you can attend, at a Minimum, 12hrs of Fire Department training/yr, please contact us for an application or more information.
No Prior Firefighting Experience Is Needed. Training Is Provided.
