Bard's Tavern Info Page

The Bard's Tavern was taken down in November 2002

If you have a modem and are interested you can connect to the ßard's Tavern via terminal by calling

phone graphic (940)243-5110 (No Longer Vaild) ,

this number is GTE metro. The Tavern was a member of both Fidonet and DALNET bbs networks.
My Fidonet address was michael.lynn@1:393/7.0
To connect you will need a terminal program; like HyperTerminal (comes with Windows 95/98/Me/NT etc) for the PC or Termite, NComm, or Jr.Comm for the Amiga just to name a few, Zterm for the Mac or Minicomm Linux. These are programs that are capable of VTxx emulation. After the connect press the escape key twice to complete the connection.
For more information on the local bbs scene click on over to the Denton Area BBS List. This fantastic guide is maintained by Walter Bowen of the
Mezzanine BBS
and is hosted by the great folks at the Chatterbox BBS. The Mezzanine BBS is now available via web interface Mezzanine BBS web connect
The Bard's Tavern is Denton's only Amiga bbs in addition to being one of it's oldest, it was originally started in the late 80's on a Commodore 64 and grew to be a source for Amiga support in North Texas, since then it has become much more. Now all platforms are welcome and the Tavern is considered a source for great multi-platform multimedia files like jpeg, mpeg, s3m, xm, mp3, midi, and mod files. If files are not your thing the bbs offers dozens of online games and interesting text files in addition to networked message areas that are similar to internet news. The Bard's Tavern DOES NOT CARRY ADULT SOFTWARE OR PIRATED FILES and has no plans to do so in the future, the bbs is designed for a mature but not necessarily adult crowd. Graphic artists and digital musicians are warmly welcomed. Science fiction and Histroy are also an area of shared interest for our online community.
The Bard's Tavern is running the following hardware and software:

Software:

Cnet BBS . Currently we are running version 3.05f, but will upgrade to version 4.2+. Network mail is currently handled by Trapdoor release 1.86b2. The system itself runs Kickstart 3.1 and Workbench version 3.9 BB2 of the Amiga Operating System.

Hardware:

The Tavern is running on an Amiga 4000T computer with a Motorola 68060/50 Mhz cpu and PPC 604e it currently has 36 MB of fast ram and 2MB of chip ram. 7.5 GB worth of EIDE (Quantum-Fireball LC) and 4.2 UWSCSI(Quantum - Viking II) hardrive space as well as Plextor 40X UW Scsi Cd rom unit an Archive Python 2 GB SCSI2 DAT backup unit as well as an LS120 drive have been added. A Cyberstorm PPC card also provides an UW SCSI Interface. To further enhance graphics a Picasso IV card has been added as well as a Power Flyer Gold card for even faster EIDE/UDMA. For analog connectivity Courier V Everything modems with second line using analog over ISDN through a Diva LAN ISDN Modem are being used and should bring additional features with Cnet 4. The system also uses an IO Blix high speed serial card + Network interface card (10 Base T). For Display a 19" ViewSonic PF790 Flat screen monitor is used and printing is now done from an HP 1100Axi LaserJet. The system is protected by the Best Power Data Fortress 750 UPS unit and a Belkin Regulator 520 UPS. Sound is provided by a Tandy MMS-10 Sound system.

Tavern Status

The Bard's Tavern was taken down November 2002 due to a motherboard failure on the Amiga 4000T caused by a short from the power supply. The last full maintenance event was July 7, 2002 and will include a full backup. If a major hardware failure takes place I will list it here in a timely manner. Cnet 5 was ordered.

Vendors

The Bard's Tavern uses these vendors with confidence.
Compuquick Media Center Compuquick is also a great place for repairs and upgrades as well as being an Amiga Inc. recognized partner in keeping the Classic Amiga going.
Software Hut has a very complete inventory, and a very modern online ordering system.
Stop by Wordbench for a great selection of printed media and a unique collection of hardware and software for C=64/128 and Amiga.
The Tavern trusts Power Factor Inc. for Power protection and backup equipment.

As with all my pages, I have tried to make this as lean as possible with minimal graphics for fast loads for those of you who access the net via analog modem or via lo-res display. All of my pages are done using Digital Quill for the Amiga computer. I also do not plan to add frames.

Questions, comments, or requests for more information can be directed to Michael Lynn.
