Number 9 Lindsley Ave. This home, located across Lindsley from the campus of the University of Nashville, was built around 1890 and belonged to John W. Thomas. Thomas was the president of the N.C & ST. L Railroad. Later Thomas and his sons went into merchantile and had extensive coffee, spice and tea mills located on south Market Street (2nd Ave.) The home had an extensive carriage house in the rear and the stone out front with the two boys waiting beside it was for stepping down from the carriages and horses. When Thomas owned the home it was No. 7 Lindsley, but in the 1940's another home was built between it and Second Ave. and it became no. 9. In the 1940-1950's the large family of Kimbroughs owned the home. This house was demolished around 1964. (Source: Nashville Room - Nashville Public LIbrary)
