Cateogry: Team Offense
Purpose: When there is a runner on first and third, send the runner on first base to second hoping to induce a throw.
Organization:
Runner on First Base:
On the pitcher's release, begin running toward second base, as if executing a "straight steal". Once you reach a point 20 feet from second base, STOP.
IF THE CATCHER'S THROW GOES THROUGH TO SECOND BASE: After stopping 20 feet from the bag, get into a rundown. Do NOT just run into second base and let them tag you out. This would defeat the purpose of the play.
IF THE THROW DOES NOT GO THROUGH TO SECOND BASE: After stopping, steal the base.
Runner on Third Base:
Once you see that the throw is going all the way through to second base, break for home.
If you see that the throw is NOT going to go through to second base, hold your position. Be careful. If you stray a few more steps off the bag, you might get picked off. |
