CD Ripping Problem
using "Eggman" by the Beastie Boys as an example

This is an example of a problem I've had repeated over and over.

1. I downloaded this track off KaZaA.
2. I burned it to a CD-R; I think I used EasyCD Creator.

BTW: This track goes immediately into the next song; there are no gaps between the songs on this album.

4. It sounds fine on 3 different audio CD players (see below).
5. However, when played in Windows Media Player, the track is messed up: the last two seconds, some traffic-type noise, is replaced with a short loop of a very brief portion of the track, looped about 8 times within the two seconds.
6. When ripped, using either CD-EX or Exact Audio Copy, this screwup is ripped, intact, and even shows up in CoolEdit (see below).
7. When this messed-up track is burned onto a CD-R, the track sounds messed up on my audio players. It doesn't matter if I rip to mp3 or wav.

I am using Windows 2000, Lite-On LTR 52246S.

Why is this happening?!?

I have about 100 CD-R's I need to rip and reburn. I hope you can help me with this.

How the wave is supposed to look

How the wave is ripped. The wave is fine (1) until 2 sec. before the end;
then there is a 2-sec. loop of a quarter-second chunk of the song (2). Very irritating.

Click here to hear the end of this track wrong, like it sounds when ripped.

Why is it called Exact Audio Copy if it doesn't produce an mp3 that sounds like the CD sounds in an audio CD player?

I wish Steve Jobs were in charge of this BS.

Email me if you can help me: jeremygrem@yahoo.com. Thanks.

BTW: I got the "correct" wave above by recording in Cool Edit while playing the CD. While I could do all my CDs this way, it takes way more time, there is (supposedly) a loss of quality, and I'd have to split them all back up into individual tracks. There must be an easier way.
