Trinity Valley Cairn Club Earth Dog Trial
This is my third Earth Dog Trial, May 2003:
Day one: Well Mom and I headed off for an adventure.... Honestly at first I didn't know we were going to be hunting rats.. But I was very happy to see my friends Kipper, Keegan and the other terriers. I heard Mom telling others humans she didn't think I was going to do very well this weekend, I seemed "too calm today"... was she talking about rats, and me not doing very well...?? Our first test was Intro to Quarry, we got into the test area, Mom sets me down and I smell the rats!! I shot right in the tunnel and found the rats in 8 seconds. I barked and barked.. Mom was barely able to get me out of that tunnel. I qualifed in Intro and was ready for the Junior Test..
Junior Test: I was the first dog to go and it didn't take me long, I knew what was going on now and boy was I ready... Mom released me and I found the rats and barked, dug and growled and then before you know it Mom was taking me out of the tunnel... She was really happy and everyone was cheering for me... Of course I didn't know why they are all so happy when those rats were still in the tunnel... Well I got another ribbon and a new bowl with treats. All I really wanted was to go back and find those rats.. I had a great day!
Day two: I knew today exactly what was going on.... I was so excited when we pulled up and rats were close by!! I saw my friend Kipper and he qualifed in Intro and won a ribbon. He is a very fast Cairn, he got to those rats in 3 seconds!! I was the 6th dog to go in the Junior Test and it was much hotter than before, but they had a pool and Mom had a water bottle to spray me. I found the rats again and barked and barked!! I really don't know what the big deal is... I smell rats, I find them and I want to "GET THEM"... curiously they keep giving my mom ribbons!! The best part is they say I'm an official Junior Earth Dog now. The next time I go to an event I'll be doing a Senior Earth Dog test... Mom said it is much harder and I'll probably be doing Senior for a while... I'll show her... Anyway it was a fun two days, I had lots of fun, met lots of dogs, I left my mark everywhere and got to terrorize some rats! Thanks for reading, Chaco.
