Welcome to the official website of the
Equine Rescue Ethics Mediation Committee

The definition of ethics is 'transparency'.

The Committee is no more, at least, I, Antoinette Smith, am no longer trying to form an ethics committee.

The Committee was attacked by the members and supporters of a certain PMU rescue based in Florida, whom I had been asking questions of right before I started forming the ethics committee. They tried to form their own ethics committe in a rush after they heard that I was forming one. A few people were confused, so this did profit them somewhat.

Additionally, a few committee members were accused (wrongly, as far as I could ever discern) of unethical behavior, and while the accusers were discovered to be old "DNA" (Do Not Adopt) people, or the allegations could not be proven and there were multiple witnesses on the side of the accused, it was still intimidating for the candidates.

For me, the final straw came when I saw evidense that the detractors had been communicating with some committee candidates and caused there to be no trust left among too many of us.

You will know who these people are. They will be the ones harolding the demise of the ethics committee all over the Internet, as if they'd slayed a giant, or better yet, me personally.

I'll be keeping the information I have about the committee, in case anyone else of good reputation wants to pick it up. I also plan to keep building the grid of rescues. I'll probably move that over to my own site and close this one down before too long.

I want to thank everyone who volunteered to give their time to serving on the Ethics Committee. Volunteering is never as easy as it sounds, and time is a very precious thing, I know.

Sincerely,
Antoinette Smith
