This slightly smaller model of the scarf Harry wears in the movie was made in no time flat on my ISM but could easily be knit by hand.  <
Materials:
Red Heart Super Saver Worsted Weight, 8 oz.,1 skein each in
321 GOLD
376 BURGANDY           (I know the colors are listed as Scarlet and Gold in the book, but the look in the movie is more burgandy...)
IF HAND KNITTING: Guage was about 3.5 or 4 st per inch which would be about a US8 or 9 (I think)
Increadible Sweater Machine keyplate 2, 44 stitches wide, 25 rows high

INSTRUCTIONS:
Well, this is just the most basic scarf in the world..... it's all stockinette stitch  I did 44 stitches wide  by 25 rows high of gold then repeated for the burgandy...My son who is 6 is about 49 inches tall (just over 4 foot) is going to be wearing the scarf, so it's "scaled down" to his size...I did 8 blocks of burgandy and 7 blocks of gold.  One full stitch on each side was used as a selvage to sew the sides together to make a tube.  To make the tassels I used a 4 inch rectangle of cardboard wrapping each color 20 times and put 6 tassels on each end (three of each, alternated).  When I attatched the tassels I pulled all 20 strands through the completed scarf about 4 rows up and then wrapped with the same color yarn to make it look fuller.
Update: February 2006=This is a very pity pattern, done quickly for a halloween costume, in early October 2001, before the movie even came out. Much better instructions can be found at this site. If you make it,please, email me and let me know!
